China backs Bosnian coal
Coal based TPP Gacko of 300 MW is planned to be replaced with a new unit of 350 MW nameplate capacity. China Machinery Engineering Company and Emerging Markets Power Fund will partner up with Serb Republic to form a joint venture in order to materialise the potential investment estimated at over €800 million. The project, however, faces considerable opposition with a number of pundits questioning its feasibility and voicing concerns about the unit's potential environmental impact. Chinese based companies already helped to finance and provided EPC on the 300 MW coal based TPP Stanari.
