Lithuania receives first shipment of US LNG

On 21th of August, with the arrival of an LNG tanker from Sabine Pass to Klaipėda terminal, Lithuania received its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US in an effort to reduce the country's dependance on Russian gas. The government announced it estimates half of Lithuania's gas consumption will be covered by LNG imports in the near future. Norway's Statoil is the prime contender to provide LNG supply, while the other half of consumption will be covered by Russia via gas pipelines.
